אדוני היושב-ראש, חבריי חברי הכנסת – מטילדה פולטבצ'נקו, בת עשר; הרב אלי שלנגר, בן 41; דן אלקיים, בן 27; אלכס קלייטמן, בן 87; ראובן מוריסון; הרב יעקב לויטן; פיטר מיגר; טיבור וייצן; מריקה פוגאני; בוריס וסופיה גורמן; אדית בורטמן; ועוד שלושה, ששמותיהם טרם פורסמו. 15 יהודים, אדוני היושב-ראש – ילדים, זקנים, הורים, רבנים, משפחות; אנשים רגילים וטובים, שכל חטאם היה שבאו לחגוג חג חנוכה, ונרצחו בדם קר על ידי מחבלים אסלאמיסטיים שפלים. הם נרצחו בגלל היותם יהודים, זה כל חטאם.

הטרור הזה שראינו בסידני הוא אותו טרור שהיכה במנצ'סטר ביום כיפור, אותו טרור שראינו בוושינגטון הבירה, שגבה את חייהם של ירון ושרה, אותו טרור שרצח רק לאחרונה בצומת הגוש את אהרון כהן בן ה-71. זה אותו טרור בדיוק בעזה, בלבנון, ביהודה ושומרון, אותה שנאה אנטישמית כלפי העם היהודי בכל מקום שהוא, כוחות של חושך ורשע שנלחמים כנגד הטוב, שחפצים לכבות את האור. אך עם ישראל צועד קדימה, ממשיך להאיר ולהביא גאולה לעולם למרות ומתוך הקשיים. כמו שאנחנו שרים כולנו בימים אלו: "נקום נקמת עבדיך מאומה הרשעה, כי ארכה השעה ואין קץ לימי הרעה".

And I’d like to give a message in English to our brothers and sisters in Australia: We stand with you. We stand with you. We feel your pain as you have felt our pain during difficult times, and especially in the past two years. From here in the Knesset, I assure you: the State of Israel is the Jewish people’s homeland and will continue to support every Jewish community around the world.

We strongly oppose the policies of the Australian government that have allowed for antisemitism, disguised as anti-Zionism, to grow unchecked on the streets of Australia. For months, for too many months, the authorities have legitimized public demonstration of hatred against Jews; violent rallies against Israel; attacks on synagogues and Jewish schools; anti-Semitic messaging online and so much more.

Only recently, the Australian Prime Minister proudly declared that his country recognizes a so-called State of Palestine. What message does this send to radical Islamist forces, when after October 7th you recognize a Palestinian state? When you support terror, do not be surprised when you get terror in your backyard. When you justify Hamas terror in Israel’s south, you incentivize terror against Jews in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. Prime Minister Albanese – shame on you.

We call on the Australian government to change its path. It is too late for the victims of Bondi Beach, but your actions can prevent further attacks in the future.

During these days of Chanukah, when it is dark outside, and the days are short, we light up our homes, and also project that light to everyone outside. This is Jewish tradition; this is our ethos, our responsibility and our commitment. We emerge from the darkness, and we continue to light the flame of truth, of morality, and of redemption for the entire world.
