Miss Albanese, there are moments when a person reveals not merely a political position, but a profound moral failure. Moments when the mask slips and what is exposed is a complete loss of humanity. Such is precisely the case with Francesca Albanese. Francesca Albanese is not a human rights advocate, nor is she a neutral representative. She has a disgrace to the office she holds and to every institution that still pretends to take human rights seriously. This is a woman who has repeatedly justified violence against Israelis, argued that Palestinians have no path to "resistance" other than violence, and legitimized terrorism against Jews as a "political resistance".
But of all the things she has said and done, there is one moment that captures her moral rot more than any other.
Francesca Albanese chose to say the words "change medication" to a grieving mother whose daughter was murdered in the October 7 massacre. She directed those words at Sonja Bohl-Dencker, the mother of Carolin Bohl, a 22 year old Christian German woman, brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists. When Sonja dared to protest the hatred towards Israel, she experienced at a screening attended by Albanese herself, that was the response of the woman who claims to speak in the name of human rights: "change medication". Those are the exact words she said. That is not merely insensitivity, that is not merely callousness, that is a moral barbarism. It is the language of someone so blinded by hatred that she can mock a grieving mother while clocking herself in the language of human rights.
The one who needs treatment here is not the mother whose daughter was murdered, but the UN official whose hatred of Israel has numbed her conscience and stripped her of basic human compassion. But this depravity - - -
But this depravity did not emerge in a vacuum. It is part of a pattern.
But this depravity did not emerge in a vacuum. It is part of a pattern. It is the same pattern that led Francesca Albanese to repeatedly cast doubt on the sexual atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th. The same Albanese chose to minimize, dismiss or question the monstrous sexual violence inflicted on Jewish women – who were raped, mutilated, desecrated and murdered in atrocities that will stain humanity forever. And yet this Albanese chose to say there was no evidence. No evidence? What kind of moral corruption does it take to look at the testimonies, the investigations, the burned bodies, the shattered remains – and still decide that the proper instinct is to cast doubt not on the rapists, not on the murderers, not on the terrorists, but on the Jewish victims? What kind of "human rights expert" sees Jewish women and Israeli women butchered and desecrated, and responds not with outrage – but with suspicion? And the moral inversion did not end there. That same Francesca Albanese also found it appropriate to lament - -
- - the killing of Yahya Sinwar – a man with rivers of blood on his hands, an architect of massacre, rape, kidnapping and torture, and she complained that the way he was killed was not human. Not human? Yahya Sinwar receives more sympathy from UN officials than the woman he helped rape, and butcher and massacre and mutilate and burn in the end. The terrorist, the awful terrorist, the monstrous, the diabolic terrorist receives compassion from UN officials, but Jewish and Israeli women do not.
The grieving mother received contempt; the mass murderer receives sympathy. The Jewish victims are doubted, mocked, erased or explained away. This is not moral confusion, it is moral collapse. And if we are being honest, there is nothing surprising about the fact that Francesca Albanese serves in a senior role on behalf of the body like the United Nations, because the UN long ago abandoned any pretense of universal morality. It has become a theater of hypocrisy that launders anti-Israeli hatred through the language of international law, while embracing terrorists and – it is so important, that it takes time– while embracing terrorists and helping, and going out against the only democracy in the Middle East for defending itself.
This is the same United Nations that chose to place Israel – a democratic state fighting for its survival against a terrorist organization that glorifies rape, child murder, kidnapping and the burning of families alive on blacklist along Hamas, as though Israel and Hamas belong in the same moral category.
Let us state this plainly: they do not. Hamas is a genocidal terrorist organization. Israel is a democracy defending its citizens from annihilation. To place Israel alongside Hamas is not an act of justice. It is not an act of balance. It is not an act of law. It is a moral obscenity. And so, let us be absolutely clear: A mother whose daughter was slaughtered by terrorists should never be an object of mockery. A Jewish woman who was raped, desecrated or murdered, should never be treated as a suspect in her own suffering.
A democratic state defending itself against genocidal terrorists should never be placed in a dock alongside the terrorist. And those entrusted with defending human rights – yet incapable of distinguishing between the murderer and the murdered, between the rapist and the raped, between democracy and terror – have lost any moral right to lecture Israel, let alone speak in the name of human rights. If we lose the clarity, we lose far more than argument – we lose our moral compass, we lose our credibility, and ultimately – we lose our humanity. Thank you very much.
